Sustainability Efforts - Greener Meetings & Events

The Palm Springs Convention Center is focused on positively impacting our community in all we do, including how we interact with and affect our environment. We continually look for new opportunities to perfect our processes to become better residents of the Earth.

2,574 Solar Panels

The Palm Springs Convention Center installed 2,574 new solar panels on the roof. Since installation in 2018, the panels produced 6.76 million kWh with a fantastic result of generating 847,000 kWh over what was consumed. To put this in perspective, a 100-watt light bulb operating for 10 hours uses one kilowatt-hour.

Reduce Energy Use

  • Motion sensors installed in locations throughout the facility.
  • Energy-smart HVAC system which provides effective and efficient heating and cooling.
  • Timers on exterior and parking lot lighting.
  • Turn off lights and air (or heat) in non-occupied areas.
  • Reflective fiber-tight membrane roof to reduce the heat load.
  • Added Variable Speed drives to mechanical HVAC related systems to improve efficiency.

Recycling

  • Use of 80 – 100% recycled paper products throughout facility.
  • Recycle paper products in restrooms.
  • Utilize biodegradable plates and flatware.
  • Green housekeeping and cleaning products.
  • 98% of food waste captured.

Saving Water

  • Metered water faucets in restrooms.
  • Low-flow toilets.
  • Low-water plants with 75% landscaping on exterior with slow-growing, drought-tolerant plants.

Recycling Program

The Palm Springs Convention Center is an active partner in the City of Palm Spring’s resource conservation and recycling efforts.

  • Loading Dock - Recycle containers are 30-yard roll-offs located on the north wall of the main loading dock. Designated recycle bins are noted for Trash, Wood (includes, but is not limited to pallets, boards, plywood, MDF, broken down crates, logs, etc.), and Cardboard (includes broken down, flattened, clean cardboard boxes.)

  • Primrose Loading Dock - Co-mingled recycling blue dumpster marked “RECYCLING”. Includes plastic, glass, and paper products.

  • Interior Bins - Several slotted recycling bins are placed in various locations. Convention Center staff will dispose of the contents. Please do not dispose of the recycled materials in roll-offs or the trash compactor.

Creating Better Environments

The Palm Springs Convention Center's management company, ASM Global, is committed to sustainability, diversity and community through ASM Global Acts in an effort to keep creating better workplaces, a diverse workforce and beautiful local communities.

The broad goals and commitments for ASM Global Acts are:

Protecting the Environment – Reducing waste from the guest experience across our venues, enhancing facility efficiency through capital investments, and protecting and preserving resources in and around our communities.

Strengthening Our Communities – Engaging in improving the vitality of our communities; increasing philanthropic support through meaningful efforts; and enhancing the health and well-being of our coworkers, clients and guests.

ASM Global Acts will establish annual targets that measure impact and progress to achieving these commitments.

The ASM Global Acts Foundation will support philanthropic and community-based endeavors guided by its sustainability and diversity pillars. In addition, the ASM Global Acts Scholarship will focus on serving diverse and under-resourced communities with educational and career-development opportunities.

“Whether you are a performer on our stages, a technician, hospitality team member or visitor to our venue, we all have the ability to work together and harness our collective action to make the world a better place. Our ASM Global Acts initiative is inspired by this idea of action and brings to life our dedication to making a meaningful difference in our communities and beyond.”
